4 x 6 for Riverspace

I just submitted five pieces to the Riverspace, which is a not-for-profit arts
organization in my new hometown. Here are the pieces that I've submitted to the show:

Standing in the Street - pen/ink/markers on paper

All of the artwork that is sold at this show will support the Visual Arts Programs at Riverspace, so if you live in the area, you should show your support by showing up for the reception on Thursday, December 11 from 6pm - 9pm.

BLACK FRIDAY SPECIAL!

This is for all of you who do not want to go out into the stores...

I really dislike visiting the stores on this day each year, so I decided to offer a Black Friday Special in my etsy shop for anyone who would rather shop online. You can have 20% OFF ANYTHING in my shop today only! So hurry on over and buy some art for those you love as a holiday gift this year.

Black Friday SALE

Paint

I've been painting the kitchen a deep grey color, and I'm so excited to say that I'm nearly finished. Originally, I intended to use some of these bargain bin paints that I keep around for rainy days. None of them were the correct shade of grey, so I'll save those for some more art projects.

More pictures of our new space are on the way. Until then, I hope you have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Organizing my Life

I have quite the list of items that I need to complete before Turkey Day, so I'm not going to share much of the artwork I've recently been working on (due to the lack of photos). Instead, I'll share my rather lengthy to-do list with you. This is what I have left to do to make our new place feel a little more like home.

Living Space
  • - Armoire (organize cords and electronics)
  • - anchor bookshelf to the wall
  • - spray paint frames, mat and hang them on walls
  • - organize paint/chemicals closet
  • - hang curtains

  • Kitchen
  • - prime and paint the walls

  • Master Bedroom
  • - create pants/dress closet
  • - hang head board
  • - attach mirror to the dresser
  • - hang floating shelves
  • - organize/hang jewelry on cork board

  • Spare Bedroom
  • - hang shelf on book case
  • - organize coat closet (hang backpacks)
  • - organize/place plastic drawers in coat closet
  • - hang curtains

  • Bathroom
  • - finish unpacking
  • - anchor cabinet to the wall

  • Once I've completed these projects, I'll cross them off of my list and share photos. Plus, I have a couple of secret projects I'm working on for clients right now, so there is more to come soon. Until then, off to work I must go...

Christmas Cards

I have a cold. It's cold. And it was even snowing this morning. All of that put me in the mood to work on my Christmas Cards. So not only am I a little elf... plugging away, making a lot of Christmas cards, but I also created a little slideshow where you can see all of those cards. They are all for sale in my shop, and they may be purchased individually or as a set.

To see the slideshow, just click on the picture below.

About Me:
I am Shawna L. Handke, and I am a Boston-based artist, although I am a Kansas-native. I studied graphic design and illustration for four years in Kansas. Then, I took a year off from school. I eventually received my degree in Art with an emphasis in painting from the University of Nebraska in 2003. I have always felt like I wanted to be an artist, so you could say that I have always been an artist. Every since my earliest memories as a child, I spent time creating artwork and reflecting on the people who surrounded me. My artwork incorporates a child-like quality, which allows my creativity to emerge. I now have a complete series that shows the nature of this freedom of expression; this is a series of illustrations, called Scribbles--Sketches. They are free-spirited drawings, including expressive lines, and are full of vibrant color. Each piece tells a story of its own, and they all reuse resources that others had carelessly tossed in the trash. I have been selling my artwork on etsy, since 2006, and I just opened a new shop, which will focus mostly on my design work. I have participated in several art shows throughout the country and am seeking new venues continually. Overall, my artwork is an immediate reflection of my life and my interpretation of others' lives.

So here's the deal, I'm going to give one of you a new iPod Touch for being my friend on ThisNext. All you have to do is click here, sign up/in and click the "add +" below my picture and you're done. I've made it all on one page, so it takes about 43 seconds.

That's really all there is to it, but if you want more details visit my blog.

On a grander note, I really believe you could benefit from the site and using it as means to promoting yourself to the masses.

Cheers.
