Profile Information

About Me:
I am a full time SEO and SEM writer who also crafts.I've been selling my handmade scarves online in one form or another since 2004. I love winter, and I love snow, and I love the feeling of a thick, soft, warm handmade scarf around my neck every time I have to venture out into all that frosty weather. Christmas, hot chocolate on a freezing cold night, the Jack Frost ice patterns on the windows in the early winter morning... to me there is nothing more wonderful than Winter! I grew up in Buffalo, NY so that could account for my love affair with snow. I now live in the Midwest which isn't quite the same but is similar enough to keep me happy.

Crafting

I have been crocheting and sewing since I was a child. I was taught originally by an elderly neighbor that my mom and I would go visit once a week and then later on I took classes in crocheting and sewing and other fine crafts. To this day I love crafting because it's a great way to relax from the stresses of my "day" job. I also love working with fine yarns and rich textiles. I search constantly for new or unique yarns to make scarves from. The materials I use are some of the finest in the world.

My scarves are all one of a kind and totally unique. You get to see the process from the very beginning and then you can buy the finished product.

Materials

I love fine fibers. Fabrics, yarns, any kind of really special, unique fiber will get my attention. And that's how I choose the materials for my scarves, whatever happens to catch my eye and makes me think " I want to surround myself with that" I buy and make into a scarf.

Locally I purchase all my yarns from an independent yarn shop, one of the few left these days, that has been in business since the early 80's. I do on occasion purchase other specialty yarns but always directly from the maker or an indie retailer. You won't find any of the yarns I use on the shelf at Wal Mart or the craft store!

I know that not everyone can afford to support indie retailers instead of going where the prices are cheapest but I choose to support indie businesses whenever I can. It's an important issue, and I'm proud to be a part of the handmade movement that is trying to change the way Americans view shopping and try to switch the emphasis from price to quality and craftsmanship because quality, uniqueness and craftsmanship should still mean something.
