Hello!

Etsy: Your place to buy & sell all things handmade
kerrie.etsy.com

I love using collage like a paintbrush, going beyond just fitting elements together randomly, but cutting, coloring, tearing and creating my own imagery from my collage parts.

I am especially interested in using collage to create a record of memory. Memory can be shaped by conflicting elements, including family, society, genetics, culture, as well as the more scientific influences of brain chemistry, cells, and blood. I am also interested in cultural and family myths and tales and how they can take the place of actual physical truth, and in fact become truth.

Report from First Thursday

As an artist, First Thursday is the best party around. Mainly in Pioneer Square, but also in many, many other locations, galleries and studios stay open late to bring some art to Thursday nights. First Thursday has been part of my life since I was in college, but I've taken long breaks from going out on First Thursday to view art. But now I have a studio in Pioneer Square, so on Thursday, I had my studio open. For the first time since we moved in, I felt pretty good about the art I was showing.… Continue

Circles

I'll be posting about First Thursday as soon as I get some photos processed. Even digital photos need processing, which in some ways seems strange. But, then again, I am a photo perfectionist. :) I have been playing with inch circles (I guess they fall into the category of "inchies") and art buttons. Here are my first three, which I'll list on etsy.

Art on Wood

I'm a treehugger, it's true. I'll recycle to a fault (my husband screams, can't we PLEASE get rid of some of these plastic bags??!). So, I get a lot of joy out of reclaiming materials to use in my art. Slabs of wood are one of those found treasures. I love working on wood. It doesn't buckle, it takes tons of abuse, and it feels nice and hefty.

The Flannel Shirt

The Flannel Shirt is about my step father, who has been the only dad I've ever known. This book explores our relationship through the ultimate symbol of my dad's dadness- his flannel shirts. The accordion pages are painted with graphite acrylic paint, and images are collaged, hand printed, hand stamped, and photocopies. Text is hand stamped. The cover is soft flannel. This book is part of a very limited edition of four. Around 6 x 6 inches, accordion style.… Continue
