Sewing paper

Hi, I am not sure if anybody can answer this but I wanted to make some handmade journals with recycled cardboard (thin) covers and blank pages inside. Is this something I could safely run through our Singer sewing machine with out causing damage to the machine and if so, how many sheets of paper do you think I can safely go through along with the cover? Thanks for any advice!
