I am using Blogger, but the best way to advertise your product and blog at the same time would definitely be LiveJournal. There are even ways for followers to purchase your stuff without even leaving your blog.

When you are first starting out, I would stick with a free blog service like LiveJournal or Blogger. You can see how commited you are to the idea of blogging without spending any money.

I started out on Blogger and am there still. The great thing is that I was able to buy a domain name thru them ($10 per year) and still keep my blog. They moved it over for me to www.craftophile.org from http://craftophile.blogspot.com If you feel you are going to blog full time or try to make money, I always think that your own domain name looks a bit more professional. :-)

Good luck!
