I'm thinking about my product descriptions and comparing mine to others. I notice that some Etsy store have long, very detailed descriptions while others are somewhat short.
What'z everyone's experiance/thoughts on product descriptions? Is it better to keep it shorter? What brings the best sales?
Good question! :-) I think it's best to aim for something in the middle.... When you're selling jewelry or any kind of craft, it's absolutely necessary to describe your items well and accurately since buyers don't have the opportunity to touch them. Some sellers write little stories or scenarios when describing their items and while I think it's cute sometimes, if I'm gonna be honest, other times it's a pain and seems a bit much, particularly if I just want to buy something quickly.
I took some advice early on (when I joined Etsy) to write my descriptions to read like a (housewares) catalog. It was a good move for me, because I can help the shopper visualize how they might make use of the item. And it gives me an opportunity to point out some of the finer details:)
