I've been thinking about the upcoming Christmas holiday and other winter holidays. (Never thought I'd be thinking about it so early, but I guess that is the life of a seller). I often feel that it gets wasteful around that time of year and would love to hear what you all do to be more environmentally friendly around the holidays.

My favorite is to wrap all of my presents in magazine pages. I offer also offer free gift wrapping on my sales. I've found such gorgeous pictures in magazines and colorful ads and they often make wonderful gift wrapping. I enjoy the process of finding pictures and wrapping, and the recipients are often very pleased with the look of the wrapping.

Please share your ideas and suggestions!

What a wonderful idea. I would have never thought of using magazines. My work used to throw away the end rolls of big white paper and so every year we wrap and decorate those. My boys love to stamp them with potatoe stamps or we had glitter pens and that is a lot of fun. We also recycle all of our boxes and bags from the Holidays and reuse them.

That sounds like a lot of fun to decorate the paper! I had forgotten about making potato stamps... ah, the memories... :)

I recently saw that my local recycling center can't accept wrapping paper. So I'm planning on using cloth gift bags or brown kraft paper for gifts I have to send. I also reuse gift bags that I receive as long as they are in good condition.

Another idea is to make little boxes out of old cards or other packaging. I wrapped some small things last year in a parts of a Diet Coke box that had snowflakes all over it. My friends LOVED it.

Oh, great ideas! I'll have to look into making those little boxes. Goodness know we have enough old cards around. I bet they would be v. pretty!

I'm big on stealing the gift bags my mom has stashed in her basement from other gifts recieved in the past, but I do use magazine pages allot to wrap items from my etsy shop when I mail them out. Magazine pages + packing tape = strong enough to mail.

I usually buy up the left over rolls of wrapping paper at clearance...and for birthdays thru the year...I let the kids draw on the back side and customize the wrapping paper for their friends gifts...

I like using fabric scraps when possible- especially for small jewelry items in place of a box. Either simply wrapped with some ribbon (or even just a touch of hot glue), or something more elaborate so they can store the jewelry, or try and keep it plain so they can use it again on any giving ocassion- like a wine bag.
