Good question. For my jewelry it is usually the stones or beads themselves. They just look at me until I realize what they are trying to say or be. Seriously. I don't usually buy stones with intentional designs in mind. I just buy what I like and wait to see what comes of it. I always end up with a huge mess in my work area because I just keep touching and looking at the stones until two or three or four of them fall together and speak to me with their color and shape. I know other things enter into the mix but that is the process that ultimately happens.

I'd have to agree with Strands of Light - lots of times, it's just a matter of walking into the store, be it a bead, scrapbooking, or an art supply store... I see something pretty, a color jumps out at me, the way the items are arranged on the shelf that day sparks something in my brain. Sometimes, it's just looking around - seeing the way a piece of fabric drapes and wanting to recreate that, seeing a cool outline a shadow makes, trying to put a mood into a piece of jewelry or onto a canvas. It's never starts the same, but always ends up with me wandering around for a couple hours, then racing back home to start working. :)

Traveling generally inspires me a lot. Being on the road, in a plane, whatever. I think the constant feeling of being in motion helps fuel my creative energy.

Colors and traveling inspire me. Also with clay if I let it do what it wants the design takes on it's own life.

That is a good thought. I study a lot of art history, as it pertains to crafts of the cultures. I watch a fair amount of PBS and DISCOVERY type history detective type stuff.

I have a book about Picasso and he said something like 'Inspiration finds you but you have to be working'. I loved that so I put the quote up in my studio. Right next to my favorite saying 'Art is never finished, it just ends in interesting places'.

Those are the things I think about when I am in the studio.

Life inspire me. People inspire me. All my pictures, images, figures, people in my paintings comes from real life, mixed of course with my imagination. Pictures come from my childhood, life here and now or just from some piece of memory, almost forgotten.

Then I add some imaginery work in that soup and that's it! :)

I often get inspired by books or even films. Also I'm a great fan of using images from my dreams as jumping off points for my sculpts.

Autumn Leaves was created after I watched the movie A Mighty Wind. In the commentary Eugene Levi talks about the Silver Dagger Ballads. These period songs usually have the woman murdered by her faithless lover. I put my spin on it when I made the women in my ballads vengeful ghosts.

Food inspires me! Most of my soaps are scented like food. Anything from a jucy pear to a 10,000 calorie brownie. :)
Problem skin insires me too, which is why I started making soaps. 16 weeks of hives will do funny things to your brain....
