I was just wondering if anybody is having any luck selling on etsy. I have signed up awhile back but havent listed anything. Other forums say yes and some say no. if not etsy where do you sell and make sales?
I myself have done ok since I have been on Etsy. Like others I have had ups and downs and currently on the down side. I am not very good at marketing but I think I have items that people like. I can't expect everyone to like what I have to offer especially when I am up against many many bath and body shops at Etsy and the Bath and body shops that have over 500 sales. Hard to compete with those shops. It does seem no matter how much I promote it doesn't seem to work for me so word of mouth is the best promoting I have any luck with. Good luck! And happy sales to everyone especially when the holiday season is approaching. :-)
I think Etsy is a wonderful site. We have had lots of luck there but it does take some time and its alot about getting the word out. We chat a lot of the forums there, hand out cards to everyone and blog about it. It is a very welcoming community and very afforadable. Good Luck with your choice
Etsy is not a definite paradise if you want to sell things. The most successful people promote their shop like crazy. I have made a few sales and promoted slightly. Check out the forums for some great tips and don't be afraid to convo sellers that you see as successful, most of them are very willing to help you out! I hope this helps...
I've had an Etsy shop for a little over a year and basically you're going to get what you put into it. I am in school full time and craft/workstudy so there are times when my sales go way down, but when I dedicate a lot of time to my store. Whether it be by listing every other day, advertising, or networking my sales go way up.
I wouldn't say that etsy is the *perfect* marketplace for crafters, there are some practices and oddments with the site that I am not a fan of, but for what I use it for it works great for me.

Hi Harold. I agree with the others that it depends on your product, and how much work you put into it. Odds are if you just list something and then leave it, it won't sell.
But if you work your etsy store just like you would any other business, it will take off. I've done well on etsy and have gained many private sales as well as wholesale accounts there. But I've worked at it too by putting my store link in my email signature, blogging, posting in the forums there occasionally, etc.
I can't say it's hard work, but I've definitely not just sat back and hoped for sales to come to me. I've been active in promoting it.
Good luck! For $.20 a listing, it's woth it to at least try!
HI Harold!
I've been selling on etsy since June 2006. and have been pretty successful there. it works better for me there than any other place:)

I have been on Etsy since May 2007 and I made my first sale on July 4th (that's a good sign). It started to pick up, made sales steadily, then boom, sales all but stopped. In the meantime, I have learned several new techniques that will help increase my sales. One thing I noticed is the bath & body shop sellers who make the most sales, also have over 40 items listed. Large amounts of items to sell in turn creates more listings, more visability. Also, I accept it takes times and lots of work, which is what I intend to do. http://www.mickybyrd.etsy.com
I sell Custom Promotional Products at http://kittycrossbones.etsy.com - I make a lot of sales using Etsy! But you cannot compare ANY custom promotional product maker to any one else because Custom Promotional Items is something everyone is interested in because its is personalized with your shop logo etc. :D
I started selling on ETSY about 4 1/2 months ago and have averaged about a sale a week since my first one (which took a month, but that seems to be typical).
I love ETSY, love the community, love the look of the site and how it works, and love the ease of having a professional storefront essentially for free (20 cents/item is dirt cheap compared to some other e-commerce sites) to drive traffic to.
That said, I will never make enough off of ETSY to account for all the time I spend there (I've made a couple hundred bucks, but have logged many, many hours photographing, writing, listing, promoting, and just socializing to make those $$$). So unless you enjoy it, I wouldn't bother. Or at least I wouldn't expect to generate a lot of business from the site (I still think it's a great way to set up a storefront to promote in person, etc.)
I've alse been trying a few other sales sites (handmade and non) this month, but so far no sales at all. I'm going to keep everything up through the holidays and see what I think in January.
The vast majority of my sales are wholesale, then after that craft shows.
I sell on ebay right now, Well dont do many sales, really slow for me there. BUT I have been invited to sell on Etsy buy a few people here and other places. I know lots of ex-ebayers are selling on Etsy very very well!
here is a linki to my ebay store if you want to see what I have:
