HIya, I dont know a great deal but I have done a little work with resin at college. I made my own molds with silocone rubber ( you can by this from a craft shop ) remember that if you want to make a mould of a 3-d object, then the item needs to be submirsed in the rubber then the rubber needs to sliced so you can pour your resin in.
the silocone rubber only lasts a handful of times before the rubber starts splitting. If you put a very very thin layer of vasaline on the mould before you pour your resin in you will find it easier to get out of the mould and the resin will have a nicer finish. If you do have unwanted lumps of marks on the resin you can sand this off with wet and dry sand paper, start with the lowest number (240, 360 etc) then work up to 1200. I used to then finish my pieces off with the finest wire wool you can buy and furniture polish.
after u have mixed the resin tap the side of the container to let the air bubbles surface and
when pouring the resin in tap the mould really gently on the side to let the air bubbles out (air bubbles have ruined so many of my pieces!)
you can colour the resin with glass paint too!
Since leaving college I have bought resin packs and rubber from craft shops but it is very expensive - Im in the UK too, try hobycraft if you have one near you. My brother was looking for places where I could buy it cheaper and in larger quantities, he found some places online and im sure he has them saved in his favourates, when i see him next ill get the links and email you!
I hope this all makes sence. It is really rewarding but it is very much a case of experimenting and trial and error! good luck x
