I was looking at one of the great profiles here on Indie with my daughter, and commented on the beautiful labels and packaging. Daughters' comment: "I thought the reason you recycle wrapping paper to wrap your goddesses is because you want to reuse?".

Yes, there is my dilemma. I also recently received an email from a ruffled customer who "loved" her Goddess, but said she was disappointed about the spartan way she was wrapped/presented.

This is what it says on my Etsy shop:
"I also wanted to mention the packaging. We all love fancy packaging, but I opt to recycle all those great tissue papers and tulles my kids schlepp in from their birthdays or various other events. I will even reuse the bubble envelope, if I can rescue it :). So please be assured that your Goddess was packaged with love and happy thoughts, and good intentions for Mother Earth."

I still believe in reusing, but also see the googly eye factor of beautiful packaging. I have even considered sewing small pouches out of recycled fabrics, but that adds work/time to my art that I would rather use elsewhere.

I would love to get some feedback from others.
Thanks!

I love recycled packaging! I think it's the only way to go! But that being said, it's always good to let your customers know what to expect before they buy. Then everyone is happy & no one is surprised!

I do, I do :). it is right on the front of my etsy page......

Again, I can understand both ways, and hope to come up with a solution that works with my 'ethics" and is visually appealing :).

That's how I do it, too -- I'm stuck with new packaging for the products themselves (most people don't want to buy bath salts in something I got at the Salvation Army) but everything I ship in is recycled. I have more packing peanuts than I know what to do with, actually...

And, yeah. I'm with you on the dilemma. But we've all got to live here and I've settled on the side that (hopefully) makes that a little better for everyone.

Be well!

I think the person just misunderstood the way you wrap and maybe just saw the part about fancy package .I think I would leave that out (We all love fancy packaging,)

Hm...bath salts in a recycled package?? :)...I can see that. But like you say, all the other stuff can be reused...

Dorothy, I never thought about that. Maybe I should change the wording.....
