Indiepublic

hiya.. I have recently set up a new blog, and I am making this discussion about blogging.. who does it and why?

my blog: eyemaywonder.blogspot.com

I have set up this blog mainly to keep a diary of uni work (I am a student studying visual communication, which is mainly illustration and graphic design based) and links to useful research.. I will no doubt use if for random thoughts, linking to other blogs, designers, news, images etc.. and generally widening the little thought space i live in... i want to learn everything i can. This is just one of my many ploys ^_^

So.. if you keep a blog, whats the link and why do you do it? ^_^
(indiepublic, vox, blogger.. all blogs are welcome in this discussion..)

xx

I'm also a student, studying illustration – my final show is next week! I keep a blog because it's also embedded in my site, and I hope it gives people a reason to re-visit, as it's updated quite often. I also enjoy writing, and was hoping for a little more sense of community with it, but I guess wordpress isn't really the place for that, in comparison to, say, LiveJournal :\

Unfortunately my blog fell by the wayside a little when I got injured immediately before my final deadline, resulting in much stress and little free time, but I'm trying to resuscitate it in time for my final show!

So: my blog and my website

I maintain a blog for my website here, http://scentedwench.wordpress.com

There are a few reasons:
1. it's fun
2. I get to interface with customers who are interested in my posts about aromatics, so it reaches people who are genuinely interested
3. it's a place to post about my current perfumery experiments as those happen
4. it is free advertising

Some stuff to keep in mind is it takes a long time to develop readership, and most of your readership is probably not interested in buying if you are blogging to promote a webstore. Adding functions like a RSS feed, and technorati, and working on some quality reciprocal linking that enhances your blog rather than distracts your readers to your competition, helps a lot.
Blogrolling other bloggers whose blogs you read regularly, is a great way to get going with reciprocal linking. You're basically adding content in a sense.
Also, don't be discouraged if a blogger opts to not add you to their blogroll.

Like everything else on the web, 'if you build it, they will not necessarily come' proves true for blogs as well.

Still, it's a nifty marketing tool.

Hi,
My blog is irisandlilydesigns.wordpress.com and I blog because I want a place to share business-building tips with other indie designers and crafters starting out online.

I have one at http://sweetvib.mindsay.com

Having an established jewelry business, I actually blog to give recognition to people who have unique, one of a kind products in order to help them along. It is so hard to get established , particularly as a self-representing artist. Mt blog is my effort at paying back with support to younger artists as I received when I was starting.

I started my blog as an online portfolio, but I've expanded it to include free patterns and more crafty topics as I've attracted more readers. I've met some great people through it and found more awesome blogs!

My site is http://www.cornflowerbluestudio.blogspot.com
