What do you do when you need a break from being creative?

I love to create! But, sometimes I just need a break or run out of ideas and need a week or two to recharge. Do you ever go through this? How do you occupy your time when you are taking a creative break?

Personally, I still like to fill that time doing this with my hands. Most often I will turn to cross-stitch (okay not completely uncreative, but I just follow a pattern and don't need to design anything). Or I like to de-fuzz thrift store sweaters and take them apart for yarn (silly, but I enjoy it) :)

Glad to hear I am not the only one that gets in a slump sometimes! I go outside or just play with my son and try to clear my head and not be too hard on myself for lacking some motivation. Doesn't it seem like it happens at the worse time!

I usually try to clean up the mess from my weeks of being creative! I have a habit of cutting and throwing "toward" the trash...or cutting then deciding I don't need this piece..so I put it in another pile over there.....or all the little thread cuttoffs that have formed a thread dust bunny under my sewing machine desk...
After all that I'm ready to start creating and making more messes!

I take my little boy golfing and then by the time I get home, I am ITCHING to work in clay again! Sometimes, though, I just take that time to blog and look through the work of other great artists. I have found that you can't force creativity!

Because what I do is both analytical and creative (all that original content doesn't write itself!) I need to take frequent breaks to recharge or I burn out. I usually go for a walk around the blog, play with my cat, put on some music, have a cup of tea in the yard, flip through a magazine, anything that will get me away from the computer for a few minutes.

When I am ready for a break from beading, I paint, then draw, then crochet, sew quilts, and in between all of that I sleep.

I play with my belly. I'm 5 months pregnant, and it's fun to push and poke and watch the baby push and poke back!

When I need a break I love to spend time with my little boy at the park.

Just like with anything, I gotta take breaks once in a while. Watching a funny movie, spending time with friends or family, taking a walk- anything that is a break from working. Although working on my art is a great thing for me to do, I sometimes put too much pressure on myself to do better, improve, etc..so, when I feel that tension, I walk away from that table, and move on to something else..for a while...

I run to the nearest Agatha Christie book...or go outside and burn paper in the fire pit. Very therapeutic.

Like Missy Sue, I like to go do something with my little boy or go browse around the bookstore. Sometimes I just feel like I run OUT of creativity and need time to recharge.
