HI VINTAGE REHAB!

I have just visited your shop. You sell beautiful jewellery, no doubt about that.

The only thing I would change in your shop, in my humble opinion, is your avatar, your photo ID. I see it is a dark circle on a white background but can't see what it really is. I like more your avatar at Indiepublic which says "Vintage Rehab".
My sis and I are thinking about a nice avatar that "catches the eye" because right now ours is just a photo of a handknitted RED SCARF that she has knitted.

I think BETHANY is giving us great tips!. Thanks.

You can visit our Etsy shop at:

And our Etsy blog where I also talk about OTHER ETSY SELLERS:

Wow, i have read all the replies to this thread...Hello btw. i just joined indie. i heard about this site from Etsy.
Now,.. what about if a person is in my situation

Well. i first got advise about my pics..I bought a digi cam and now they look great.. Changed banner, the works:)
I started playing the Etsy games( tag, SS, BNR etc
I post every day ..several; times a day in promotions
I participate every saturday in Etsy's Saturday Night Special
i have a blog
I have a myspace
I have an ecrater
I have now six pages on other site with my shop ( Indie, WeloveEtsy, Aim, Yahoo 360, Comechilll, Cafemom.

aaaaaaaaaaand LOL yes I have made 94 sales but I feel they were kinda "play by rule" meaning:
From Tag and BNR and SS you "have to buy at a min or from a shop in order to play"
BNr I always get bought off with only the CHEAPEst thing i have in my shop...

My threads die fastt in promo, i used to list several items at a time everyother day. but those listing fees add up when you get no sales:)

Out of the 96 sales only 8 have been regular sales but cheap 4.00 supplies sales, no jewelry. two sales above 10dollars but only with a discounted price. and two trades

My feedback 100% positive.

Honestly I am starting to think people just dont like my jewelry( i believe in my craft and I love it but.....

Anyway I am st the point of tears..Please let me know what I am doing wrong or could do better. i don't want to close up shop

Loooooots of people sell jewelry on Etsy and it's just hard to be seen in searches and whatnot. That's why a lot of people recommend relisting (see the previous page on how to do that :) ) and 110 sales is spectacular! I've only made 15 so far :)

Jewelry's just so prominent and there are lots of people to 'go up against' (I sell jewelry too, go figure!)

you're doing fine! :) just keep promoting.. talk about your etsy, make business cards and hand them out, wear your jewelry out and if people comment on it, give 'em a card! if you go to lunch, leave a business card on your table, if you go grocery shopping stick on next to a box of cereal or somethin'.

that's what I do, at least (and I'm still waiting on sales too, haha. but they'll come!)

Your store is just wonderful! Everything is beautiful and looks like you have quite the deals. I am having the same problems with Etsy and am asking the same question but as far as I see it your store is lovely! I wish you alot of luck with your adventure and I would think things will turn around for the both of us. I have heard though that Etsy does like to look at new/ fresh items and making sure that you are on the front pages helps by listing new things or relisting items before your 4 months is up. Deb

Wow, this has been such a helpful discussion! This just answered so many questions of mine. Robin and Bethany, thank you for your advice! Nyblaque - Your jewelry is beautiful, what's not to love? Your pictures are great, your shop looks very professional, and your prices are ridiculously low. Sounds like your doing everything right. I wouldn't worry about your sales only being "play by rule". I think people are definately drawn to your jewelry.

Great info! I JUST joined this site (about 3 minutes ago). I going through the same thing. I am on Etsy and am trying to start getting my sales going. I sell bigger items so I think less people buy those things. Good to know other people out there so we can help eachother!

Welcome to etsy. The best advice I can give for more sales is just lots of outside advertising. I do spend a lot of time on the etsy forums, BUT they say that only a very small percentage of etsy members actually use the forums so it's not like a lot of buyers see you there.

I've recently started adding my items to GoogleBase and then linking that to my shop.

I don't agree that renewing listings is a good idea. I think if you want to get to the top of the search list you should do it by putting something new in your shop. Once upon a time renewing worked, but there are just so many people listing items on Etsy now days that your renewed item gets buried within 30 mins, and as there are so many people joining and opening shops the situation is only going to get worse. Relying on renewing items to bring you customers IMO is a waste of 20c and all those wasted 20c add up fast if you are renewing 2-3 items a day. The listing system on Etsy is crazy as is the search engine, but until they are changed I truly think you are better off spending all those 20c renewal fees on advertising off etsy to bring people directly into your shop. Take a look at project wonderful or ask around for people with high readership on their blogs and see what they charge for placing adverts on their blogs. Bringing people directly to your shop is going to work far better than trying to metaphorically wave your arms around on etsy shouting "Look at me! Look at me!" because you will be one of about 60 thousand other active sellers all doing the same.
