I love to create! But, sometimes I just need a break or run out of ideas and need a week or two to recharge. Do you ever go through this? How do you occupy your time when you are taking a creative break?
Personally, I still like to fill that time doing this with my hands. Most often I will turn to cross-stitch (okay not completely uncreative, but I just follow a pattern and don't need to design anything). Or I like to de-fuzz thrift store sweaters and take them apart for yarn (silly, but I enjoy it) :)
Wow, Gwen, it's like you read my mind! I'm in the same boat ... as are most of us here in Indie, I'd bet. I've been doing my thang since early this year and there are times when I really have to battle the negative, energy-sapping moments when sales are down or I just don't have enough time between my day job and school and ... well... life! But, as you say, I feel what I'm doing is purposeful and I truly feel it's what I'm supposed to be doing with myself, so I go forth. :-) Besides, I'm only truly happy when I'm doing something (anything!) for Tattooed Kitty! I'm really thankful for all the wonderful people I've found here on Indie, too. Isn't it a great place!? :-)
It's funny that you mention organizing your studio as a way to get the creative juices flowing again ... I just completely rearranged my workshop and it pulled me out of a creative slump. So, in one evening, I've gotten that little boost I needed and now I'll be up for creating and getting a lot of sewing done this weekend (just in time for Xmas shoppers)! Who would've thought that doing something I really NEEDED to do would get me back on track creatively? :-)
I have a 2 year old son that keeps me pretty busy...Im also prego with my second child so I have many things to keep me busy...I love to create and when i get Crafters Block as i like to call it I would go threw craft books and magazines and get ideas... I also love going to craft stores i tend to get many ideas while walking down the aisles...
My life is the other way around, as a new Mom, I miss having all the time I used to have! I try to get in the studio a few hours each week. But before my son was born, I'd just go for a walk or take a long bath. Now, those things are breaks from motherhood to get a little breathing room! =)
Speaking of creative blocks, when stuck for new ideas I"ll do variations of previous designs. The necklace in my avatar is just that, although it looks completely different from the original idea. Now this piece has sparked an entire series of new work.
How it is for me: I don't often feel the need to take a break from creating. But when I do take a break (vacation, or during the holidays I forced myself to take a little break to regroup and reflect)... it is sooo energizing.
I'm curious to hear others' experiences too! :-)

When I take my "breaks" I'll usually turn to the computer work I've let slide. If I need to relax (what's that?) I used to read books, but I haven't done that since last summer. I am always doing something crafty. But it is something that is outside of what I do for my website. Even then, I find myself trying to come up with ways to incorporate that current craft into something for my site. I just can't stop! My husband tells me I need to get sick to be able to stop. LOL But I seriously doubt that would work.
