When you were little, what did you want to be when you grow up?

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grow up?
AND
Looking back, what did you want to be that you can't believe you EVER wanted to be?

*******
There were so many things I wanted to be when I was little - from a nurse, to an author, to a veterinarian, to a model. Its great to dream isn't it?

Looking back, it was probably the idea of being a teacher that is most surprising to me now. I don't think I could even consider it - the though of getting up in front of others (especially children) to teach just makes me nervous. I much prefer not to be in public speaking of any kind. I have so much respect and admiration for people who can do this - and to help people to learn and grow, too. Wow.

In the first grade I loved art--but had no concept that I could actually be an artist. Variously I wanted to be a teacher, a bus driver(I spent so much time on the bus going to school that it seemed to make sense, and I could chat with the riders), restaurant reviewer, minister, poet(which I did for ten years, though not as a moneymaker). Now, I am a librarian, and mosaic artist. I read somewhere that only 1% of undergraduates indicate they want to become librarians--most people decided on it as a second career!

many many things.

among them, a teacher, a grocery store clerk, a painter, a dancer, a singer, an entrepreneur ( i sold candy and little debbie cakes out of my bedroom), a hair dresser, an architect , a cook, etc.

just whatever i 'played' with my cousins and thought was fun. for instance, we played grocery store, teacher, and architect, building elaborate clubhouses out of boxes.

I wanted to be King. I figured I'd look great in purple and I could ride a horse like a man.

When I was a really young girl, I wanted to be a lamb when I grew up-weird child! Haven't changed much, either.

I hear ya. I wanted to be a zoologist and work with primates. I was stymied by biology, too. Ah well. I still love to visit them at the zoo.

As soon as I knew what the word was for what I wanted to do (entomologist: scientist that studies insects), I knew that was it. I was catching bugs since I could walk. In 3rd grade, for career day, we had to dress up with what we wanted to be. I brought in my butterfly net.

And I'm currently in college studying zoology and entomology - so far I'm still on track!

My biggest dream has been to get a photo/article published in National Geographic.
