I'm always curious to see the workspaces of other artists and crafters! Colors, storage, supplies... they all speak about who we are as artists. So, what does your studio look like? Is it just a small corner in the kitchen? Or do you have an entire room? How 'bout we discuss our workspaces, what we like, and "practical" stuff like storage, organization, etc.! :)

To start off, here are some pictures of my "studio" (attached). Its divided between my sewing/crafting area on one wall and then my "home office" on another wall (where I do my networking, writing, photo editing, etc! :). I'd love to have a whole room one day because right now storage for supplies is a bit of an issue! I have some supplies (trims, embroidery supplies, small notions, etc.) in the blue drawer unit (garage sale find for $5!!!), but my fabrics and larger vintage pieces that I reconstruct are in storage in the basement right now (I have a chest and dresser for that!). One thing I really need to work on is lighting (any ideas); I just don't have enough for detail work if its dark! Basically, this is unusually clean; when I'm in the middle of a project its chaos!! :)

So, show me or tell me: what does *your* space look like?

Cheers!
C.

I would LOVE my own room, but for now it's a corner of the livingroom.

Brigitte,

I'm the same way... I tend to spread out all over the place! I love doing handwork and other little projects in the main living areas so I can hang out with the rest of my family. :)

Love the picture--what a cute kitty!! :)

Cheers!

Hi Casey,
you are right, its so important for me too, to be in the "center", so everything is close to me, my computer, sewing machine, kitchen(i love to cook), and my garden,.....most of my works I am doing there, always accompanied by my 4 cats and 2 dogs!
the picter was taken at easter-time, i did decoration for a restaurant, with lots of coloured egs, ....and small baskets with flowers and easter decoration,....
the cute kitty on picture is called "Mathias", like our grandson, he is a boy, and sometimes he likes to be dressed up with dogs-fashion!
sorry for my English, I`m Austrian,......
have a nice time!!!!

I love your little area, I have always wanted a tailors dummy not sure why but I have and I am in total awe of how you display your jewellery, I hope you don't mind but I think I will borrow that idea for my bedroom.

Kara,

Your craft area is so neat!! I love how organized everything is and how PINK it is too!! (Pink is my favorite color... ;) Love those pink chairs, especially. :) Thanks for sharing!!

Oh, no problem about using the idea for jewelry display; it was actually developed from an idea I saw on another blog and then just adapted and changed it for my needs! :)

Cheers!!

I am amazed by the uniqueness of each of the rooms displayed here. see as an Interior Designer, I can tell you honestly: GREAT WORK!!! I believe the most important thing about our relationship with our space, environment, is to make it work for us, to adapted, to imprint our personality on it... so we can feel comfortable and belong.

In our creative field, that feeling of belonging with our studio is a key element to the whole process. For some artist, Chaos may be the answer, for some other it is neatness and organization... for some is both (like me ;)

My graduate research was about early Loft living and the relationship between live and work for many artist its really interesting.

Cassey, thank you for creating this discussion! congrats to all of you, to me, just being proud of your studio is a reason to Cheer!

Andreina,

Thanks so much!! I studied Interior Design for two semesters and I agree: the important thing about any space is making it work for us... not against us! :) I tend to be like you too; somewhere in the middle between chaos and tidiness (I go from one to the other; depending on the project I'm working on!). hehe.

I have to tell you that I really am intrigued by the topic of your graduate research--that must have been interesting to research!!! Neat!

Have a lovely Monday!

Cheers!

I usually have about three different projects that I work simultaneously on so I usually have about three work stations set up in my small apt. But I try to keep what I'm not using stored away--I have plastic drawers filled with fabric, a trunk for all my paper crafting supplies and a corner of my kitchen houses all my painting supplies...I wouldn't trade my mess in for not being able to create though!

I do most of my crafting at my dining room table where the light is best and I can sit comfortably and work, but that means that we rarely ever use it for eating anymore! It's a mess. I have so many containers and bags and boxes, it doesn't even help the organization. Not to mention all the paper scraps and ribbon and all the little bits of things laying around... I actually sell signs in my Etsy shop that say "Creative Minds are Seldom Tidy"! I think us crafters and artists can relate to that! Take a gander at the current state of my dining room table. (Mind you, this was taken shortly after I cleaned it off to iron, so half of it resembles a table, still. Which is RARE!)
