I was just wondering if anybody is having any luck selling on etsy. I have signed up awhile back but havent listed anything. Other forums say yes and some say no. if not etsy where do you sell and make sales?
I think Etsy can work for people, but it is very labor intensive. You have to list regularly and promote in as many places on and off line as possible. I'm not a high volume seller that sells many items $20.00 or under so I have to do a lot of promoting to get people to look at my sculptures and my husband's art. I have to target times like the holidays where I will sell a majority of our work.
I did horribly on Ebay. My sales have been better on Etsy.
I just started on Etsy myself and so far one sale. I hope to have more soon. I am also new to indiepublic and trying to use both to benefit my sales. www.crystalprincess.etsy.com
I'm on etsy as a hobbyist and to support my etsy buying habit. I've had much more success than I ever expected, with 9 sales since opening my shop in August. I do list or renew 1-2 times daily and keep a blog about my crafting and a flickr account.

I think Etsy is great, if you consistantly promote your product and shop! For instance, when I post items often, blog and promote through various venues, I tend to get more sales. Lately though, due to a serious illness, I've been unable to do so and my sales have basically dried up. I'm not surprised, so I'm not upset. Basically, as with most things, you can't just post items and expect them to magically start selling. Its all about how much time and effort you put into getting your Etsy shop off the ground and "out there".
I think you really have to promote yourself. If you just open shop there, it is hard to find you with so many other shops. I have gotten a few sales from the forums, I also have a blog, IndiePublic and Flckr page. I also do a ton of promoting off the internet. I am looking for arts/crafts shows also. I like the setup of Etsy- it is pretty good, .20 listings, nice shop, shopping cart, etc.
I just hit 200 sales, and I started the day after Christmas. I do list often, and come up with new designs as often as I can. Etsy has changed my life, and motivated me to be more productive. It's amazing!
Jewelry here is very competitive there are so many of us, I changed my earwires also and nothing has happened, I guess the key is to promote, promote and get out the good word out about yourself, I'm hopeful with the holidays coming up and all, good luck with whatever you choose, take care Michele.
Ive been on Etsy since Last August, and have had so so sales. I have brought every single sale in from the outside though through my LJ Commuities. I cant seem to crack the Etsy community of sellers no matter how many groups i join, forums i post in and chats i join. However, i am having a good time! And am not complaining! I know that Jewlery is a hard sale on Etsy since ther eare soooooo many of us up there!
I have only been on Etsy for about one month. Have had 2 etsy sales. I think it's just a matter of promote, promote, promote. I have a full time job, and it's hard for me to stay on the fourms, which everyone says is the best way to promote. I'm going to hang in there.
I opened a shop on Etsy a little over a month ago - it took just about a month to make my first sale - it will be interesting to see how long it takes to make my next sale. I also sell on my own web site - but really have to put more effort into marketing. If nothing else, for $0.20 an item, Etsy is a good place to showcase your items - a place to send people to see what you are doing.
