Today's featured artist is Sheika Lugtu, the self-taught photographer and polymer clay artist of Deabusamor.etsy.com.

Of her artwork, she says, "My ultimate goal is to create pieces of jewelry or art that makes you smile every day."

Her polymer clay work has gorgeous texture to it! The one-of-a-kind pendant pictured above is called Purple Tako Heart Sugar. Sheika says, "A strange name for a strange pendant, this purple endeavor features a crackled coil, bubbles and spotted swirls." It's beautiful!

I love this photograph, titled Winter Solace.

Sheika took time to discuss her art with us.

Creative Sundries: You have a great variety of artwork! How do you decide if an idea fits into one medium versus another?
Sheika:
I love feelings - both tactile and emotional. Whenever I want to impart a sense of joy, mystery, love or any other emotion I find that visual media is best. One is more apt to be moved by a portrait or a photograph. On the other hand, my polymer clay work is a textural adventure. I love contrasts -- rough and smooth, deep and shallow, heavy and fragile...and clay holds this very well.

CreativeSundries: What inspires you?
Sheika:
The medium! Everything looks so different to me from the viewfinder of a camera and I just make it all up as I go along. The same goes for clay -- it's such a supple medium that I usually just make whatever comes to mind while I knead it.

CreativeSundries: What are your future plans for your art and your shop?
Sheika:
I hope to have a brick and mortar storefront someday. :) Its a big goal for a small shop, but hey --Dream big, right?

Definitely! I wish you the best on reaching your dreams, Sheika!
