If you follow the thread below titled "Another quick post" and read the comments you will be up to date on the subject of this posting.

where to start! First about coding, Suddenly, 8 or so folks are now on my friends list. That tells me for the most part that my postings there drew some interest, and that my message was received. What I still don't know is how many folks are reading this blog but not official friends. The old rule of thumb would be to multiply by 4. This is the model i will use till i can refine it further. I really do not have a solid handle on it but I need a starting point to help me work out numbers latter on. Yeah marketing is allot about numbers, but easy ones. The numbers are used to help understand the demographics of the market you are in.

Trick:
Understand your market, it will improve your sells tremendously.

I want to change voice out of this teacher mode. Man, I got hammered over there. I tried to not let the negative voices get to me. It really took me by surprise. And I realized a bunch of things from that experience. The most important part is that I was being hammered for talking about biz in the biz and marketing section, and the factual tone was a turn off to some, and somehow some folks took that as bad. I know why it happened though. My title sucked. I picked it on purpose, but it clearly rubbed some folks the wrong way. I picked it because i wanted to test my ablity to be able to convert clearly skeptical folks into beliving my message. My goal was to do that humbly and by example. Which worked for a very long time till the thread got to popular. But was it the right way to get my message across?????

THIS IS NOT ABOUT GET RICH QUICK. For me this is about sharing.

I do think as a rule of thumb way more folks were interested in the discussion than not. Cool, but the negatives are hard to get past. My older brother tone seems to get folks. Please stop now, and don't bother me if you can not deal with it because that is the way i am.

Was the thread a success? or a failure?

Trick:
blogs need to be short :)

Controversy is considered a very strong marketing ploy. Personally you can have it, I never try and use it on purpose.

And one final thought, Marketing is often cold and cruel and just about the numbers. I will try and keep it as light as I possibly humanly can.

well after sometime to cool down over all those issues and much further in time than the OP here, I will make the following observations.

I think I have found my teaching voice. I think I won over lots of folks. And I have learned so very much! And I made and making some incredible friends on this journey.

Thanks guys, this is very much worth the efforts.

There are some toxic personalities that bloom on the fora on Etsy. I play in that sandbox at times, but not enough to be "known" and frankly, if that's what it took to see any sort of success for my on-line aspect of my business, I would say "No thank you!"

I'm old enough, and secure enough (I married a great guy!) to be able to stop doing things if they are not fun. My business is fun. Growing it is fun. Rolling around in muck is not fun. Unless one is inside a 4-wheeler, but I digress.

just made that my screensaver. :-) Now if I could only get my teenage kids to understand that.

I think thats why Im really fed up with the Etsy forums lately, it freaks me out that 20 and 30 somethings are basically acting like my 17 and 18 year old kids...exasperating!

what kills me about posting on Etsy is that people will post titles that are provocative so people will read their threads but when you did that, they jumped down their throats!

Im sorry but I stand by my post there that anyone who wants to be businesslike is treated like they are 'old and decrepit' unless they use textspeak and arent in it for the money... Id like to pay ALL my bills from my business not just to buy more beads...so guess Im not working in the 'spirit of Etsy' (gags a little)...

tells us more.

as far as being a teacher and art goes, Virtually all my work tries to capture beauty some how or another. And I think that beauty transcends. I try and teach others i suppose what i see as beauty.

Yeah my tone I hope becomes teachy, but it is clearly overprinted with me being Big brother. Thanks though your comment helps me a ton.

My life's ambition these days is to be a teacher, and a student. You really made my day :)

Your tone is teachy, not preachy. I like teachers. I like to surround myself with teachers because they never make me feel bad for not understanding.

suds, thanks as well, Man I learned a ton in a very short amount of time. Thanks for highlighting the where and how.

I worry about that preachy part a ton. It was one of my personal reason for thinking I was a fool to want to start a blog. The last thing i want to do is be preachy, but I am having some difficulty in my writing voice trying to figure out how to NOT do exactly that. Its that older brother, from a family of seven children thing. I can not get past that part of who I am. But I think I can find away, or I would never have tried this.

If you see me going over that way then I have moved way to far, please let me know.

wow,

This is why I wanted to start a blog. I will address the Etsy thread soon elsewhere.

Thanks for the insightful comments guys. there is so much I want to say here.

GG your thoughtful comments offer me encouragement, and help me understand that I must be on the right track.

I love the quote you posted:
