About Me:
Serpentine Hair was founded by a gal named Kim (That's me!) out of frustration with paying astronomical prices for a decent sulfate-free haircare line that didn't use overwhelmingly strong fragrances or other harsh chemicals. I always loved the idea of gentler haircare, but I ran into the same problems as I always did when looking for a decent product; the bigger bath and body companies that billed their products as "natural" were usually full of sulfates and other harsh ingredients that aggravated my allergies, and the indie alternatives generally varied between nice-but-really-expensive and cheap-but-lousy. I was ready to start tearing my (serpentine) hair out in frustration, so I decided to do something about it. After putting my mad kitchen and chemistry skillz to work, (combined with extensive research, a few mistakes, and several metric tons of coffee,) Serpentine Hair was born. I hope you like these products and the fruits of my insane caffeine consumption as much as I do; they smell nice, are quite gentle on the hair, and won't break the bank.

Favorite Designers/Artists:
We're quite partial to Brooke's creations at Villainess! On a less shop-talky note, I (Kim of Serpentine Hair,) really, really have a weakness for modernism, abstract expressionism and surrealism (i.e. Warhol, Escher, Pollock, etc.) I'm also a big fan of well-done graffiti; I see it as the original Pop Art!
Favorite Music/Musicians:
Our products are composed to the tunes of Carfax Abbey, David Bowie, Bauhaus, The Sisters Of Mercy, The Cure, Queen, and a number of other bands that rock the casbah!
Favorite TV Show & Movies:
Our products are also sometimes composed to the strains of Penn & Teller's show "Bullshit." And occasionally we screw up a batch of shampoo bars while drooling over the man-candy on Grey's Anatomy.

Serpentine Hair's February '09 Releases!

To celebrate the sexy theme of Valentine's Day, we here at Serpentine Hair will be bringing you the following scents this month:

Cora Pearl

One of the most famous courtesans ("Grandes Horizontales") of 19th century France, this English expat dazzled Parisian society with her charm and style as she entertained some of the Continent's most powerful men. Our tribute to this sexy lady of the demi-monde is a warm blend of neroli (a nod to the Duc L'Orange, one of Cora's favorite benefactors,… Continue

New custom orders will be offered as of 10/21!

First of all, thanks so much to everyone for bearing with us! We had massive equipment failiures, slow shipments, and a couple of super-unexpected events come up in the last two months, so our would-be fall debuts had to be pushed back quite a ways! Without further ado, here's what's up:

Looking for a quirky-yet-useful favor that'll be remembered for a special day in your life? Are you dying to get your hands on a pallet of Bridezilla? Can't get enough of Medusa? Forbidden Fruit beckonin… Continue

Gah!

Ok, apparently everything annoying happens at once. In a nutshell, the liquid shampoos/LE's are going to be released on Monday the 8th. My camera, secondary Windows computer (that's the one which prints the labels correctly; the format doesn't translate well to Linux for some reason,) and oven (that we use to make record bowls) ALL crapped out on me this last week, so I've been scrambling to replace/repair all of the above. My apologies for the lateness, but I'll be sure to make another post whe… Continue

Odds & Ends & Updates...

First and foremost, THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to read and sign the anti-FDA Globalization Act in the last post. Your support is most appreciated, and I'll keep you all posted as to how it all works out. :) *fingers crossed*

On a lighter note, we have all the bottles, etc. ready to go for the September 1st launch of our much-anticipated liquid shampoos! We currently have the lovely and talented indie designer Kate Lawrence wor… Continue

FIGHTING FOR INDIE BUSINESSES!!!

Ok, so the proposed Orwellian FDA Globalization Act of 2008 is basically threatening the existence of Serpentine Hair and all other indie bath & body/cosmetics businesses by forcing all of us small business owners to pay thousands of dollars a year in "registration fees," as well as throwing us a ton of pointlessly cumbersome paperwork every year. Here are the links that explain what exactly what this anti-free trade mess of a bill entailsContinue

Do you DaWanda?

I know many of us here on Indie Public sell on Etsy but do you also sell on DaWanda?

I am putting together a 5 part blog post over this weekend to talk about how to use DaWanda to expand your business, why it can benefit you, who is buying on DaWanda & what you need to know to be successful there!
