Hello... I just started selling on etsy, I make OOAK women's clothing from recycled and sustainable materials. I feel so blind coming into this world of indiepublic, etsy, myspace, facebook, etc.... I feel even more blind to the "advertising" bit- how to make sales, get your name out, find the right audience. Anybody have any really basic advice for an overwhelmed newcomer? Even a pat on the hand will do...

Etsy members are wonderful people! They will give you more help than you knew was available, just ask. Don't be shy there... try the chatrooms and spend some time reading forum posts. The rest, I'm told, is just getting in people's faces so to speak, so that they see you over and over, and PATIENCE. A very wise etsy seller told me that it takes about a year to find out if what you're doing is going to work out for you. It seems forever to a newbie, but time flies if you keep your nose to the grindstone. Good luck!

welcome! I am fairly new too. I have 3 shops on etsy & just started here a few days ago. My advice is to read a lot of the forums and be careful what you write if you reply to any. Customers read the forums too & it seems as though some people either don't care or they forget that fact. Other than that, ask questions. I've found many nice people who are willing to help. Most of all, have fun!
