I think that some people just charge enough for the cost of their materials and not their time. They love to create and sell things to make back enough to buy more supplies.
I, on the other hand, want to get paid for my time. It hurts me when someone else is selling their copper chainmaille for 1/2 of what I sell mine for.
Just my opinion.

I'm just starting out with my etsy shop. I'm pricing my items at wholesale because I'm afraid I will lose customers if the price is too high. Do you think I should start selling at retail?
Something to consider about your big picture if you price too low:
- it is harder to say "oh I need t charge more because of X, Y,Z factors" than it is to give a better price or discount in future.
-If you price at wholesale somewhere like Etsy or anywhere online, it looks bad when (if ever) you approach brick & mortar stores to sell your wares; why would they want to stock something in store when people can just get it half price online?
Correctly is different for every person. I see a lot of things I think are too low, but I also see stuff that I think is too high. I think it just depends what a person is comfortable with, how much confidence they have in their work and what they are trying to get out of selling their work, I also think some people just don’t factor in all the associated costs that come with the business.
However there is a ton of inexpensive jewelry on Etsy, but you shouldn’t let that sway your decision in your pricing.
I think most artists struggle with pricing... Pricing and paper work are my nemesis! Lol
When I first started out, I'd be so thrilled if someone liked my jewellery that I'd almost give it away! But at the end of the day I'm running a business, and now I stick to what I believe is a 'fair' price for what I do.
I understand that for some it is just a hobby and they are happy to more or less just get back the cost of their materials. However it does make it very difficult for the rest of us who are trying to make a living!
